Terroir

WINE MAKING BEGINS WITH THE SELECTION OF THE "VINEYARD"

Terroir in the Szekszárd wine region is more than just a combination of soil, microclimate and topography. It is where the stories of the vine and the people who tend it come together.

The Szekszárd wine region is a landscape with a unique microclimate, situated 180–200 metres above sea level, in the heart of Hungary and my soul. Its moderately continental climate and loess-rich, clay soils are favourable for growing grapes. Frosts are rare, as are lightning glances and stormy arguments. One could say the slopes are peaceful.

Grapes have been grown here for centuries, although there are also new plantings. What particularly interests me is the diversity this landscape has to offer: vineyards with different exposures, variations in soil and the distinctive character of each individual growing site.

For me, winemaking begins with the selection of the vineyard.
